afternooon dreams

So I take a nap this afternoon, mostly because I started reading a book for my history class in bed and fell asleep. But I had some funky-ass dreams. I only remember two, so that's what I'll share.

The first dream had to do with air thermals and the way birds use them to float and fly with little effort. See kids, science can lead to cool dreams! Anyway, I was back home in Gillette, in the backyard. It was late late in the day, as the sun was setting, and you could see the goldenness settling over everything. I was wearing a very baggy shirt, and dinking around in the yard. Somehow I got it in my head to jump up in the air and spin around.

Sometimes I could spin around once, sometimes twice, sometimes my jumps would send me very high in the air. One jump even sent me higher than the house and wind generator (Mom and Dad will know what I'm talking about, so will Jill). I finally realized what was making me do this: pockets of warm air from the sun shining down on the ground and roof all day. I was able to jump up, and by moving my arms left or right, steer myself around. Sweet! So I jumped up from the ground, did my spinny thing, and steered myself over the roof of the house, which was storing quite a bit of thermal air, and sent me even higher. I thought, "I've had dreams about doing this with gliders, but now I'm actually doing it!" I soared around over the backyard, returning back to the roof of the house for a pick-me-up.

Then I was accompanied by a falcon. He was apparently my friend, because he was talking to me, and giving me tips on how to fly by moving my fingers ever so slightly, like a bird would move tiny feathers to change his flight pattern. Every time I would launch into some kind of dive, I would lose sight of the ground, and wouldn't know if I was flying up, down, or just level, and it always freaked me out a little because I didn't want to be flying straight towards the ground!

Okay...now for the next dream. This one's not quite as weird, sorry.

I was hanging out with some friends, I think in Oregon, because Lacey was there, and Matthew showed up all of the sudden, only his hair was dyed blonde with red highlights...it was weird. He'd come in the room just as I was doing a backwards handspring, and as I did, I almost landed on a kitten, and scared the crap out of it. I managed to pick him up before he ran away, and he had a little collar and tag on him, with an email address: elfinelf@hotmail.com. (My brain made this up, I doubt it is a real email address folks.) I was really excited that the cat had an email address for some reason. Then Lacey was commenting on my red hair and I said I was going to dye it brown soon.

Oh, that reminded me of a third dream, with the kitten, sorry.

I had gone back home for the night or for dinner. My bed was still at home, and for some reason my sister was laying in it with the window open, and there was a collander of spaghetti noodles sitting up by her head, needing to be drained. Trying to be helpful, I picked it up, and all this water came leaking out of the collander, rushing towards her hair. I tried blocking it, but there was no use, and she had to sit up to avoid getting wet. Hmmm. Then I heard something outside my window on the back deck, and saw a baby raccoon! There's a small hole in my window screen from my cat a long time ago, and I was sticking my finger out the screen to try to pet the raccoon, and he let me and even stuck his nose in the hole so I could scratch it. Ashley was getting mad at me and left.

Then it was time for dinner. Dad had the spaghetti, and apparently I hadn't done a good enough job of straining the water out of it, because he took the pot of spaghetti, opened the cupboard below the sink, and tried draining it that way, losing several noodles in the process.

Then I was telling Mom a story from across the table, and she just stopped me and said something like, "I can't talk to you with that stuff on your face!" And I didn't know what she was talking about, so I was feeling around my face, trying to find something, but I couldn't. Then she came over and proceeded to pick a bug off my face and out of my hair. Gross. And I shreiked, "It's because Ashley leaves the damn window open all the time!!!"

Oh, one more. Sorry! This is going to be a super super long post, and I apologize, and congratulations if you've made it this far.

I was in some kind of house, and living on the third floor. Might have even been this apartment building, because I do live on the third floor. Anyway, the first set of step leading up to the third floor had collapsed, so you had to grab ahold of the rails of the final flight of steps to the third floor, and hoist yourself up the steps, using your legs to push around on the walls and stuff. Some guy who lived there showed me how to do it, but then went back downstairs and couldn't get up. Or maybe I couldn't get up after having done it once.

Anyway, a bunch of us were hanging out on the landings, one on second floor, one group on third floor, and I ran into the kitchen on the second floor and filled up some ice cube trays to give to somebody on the third floor to put in the freezer. I think it was for the guy who showed me how to get up the stairs. I'd done it once, but couldn't do it the second time, but I think I ended up just dangling from the railing and scared I was going to fall. After everyone left, I decided to try it one more time, and was successful. Then I realized if I really wanted to make it to third floor, all I needed to do was go to the OTHER end of the building, because I'm sure the stairs were intact there, and just walk down to my end of the hall, which was by the broken stairs.

Okay, done! I'll be quite suprised if anyone kept reading and made it this far. Congratulations, you are one of the few, the proud, the bloggers.
